Slovak Hockey
History of Slovak hockey dates back to 1920 when the first Slovak hokey club was established in Košice. Very soon, more clubs were created in Bratislava, Banská Bystrica and Žilina. European championship was organized in High Tatras in 1925.
The Slovak national hockey team was created in 1993, after the breakup of Czechoslovakia and was required to start its international games in pool C. After 3 years Slovak players reached the best teams and started to play in pool A. Slovakia won its first silver medal in St. Peterburg, Russia in 2000. The biggest success was in 2002 when Slovakia won the World Championship in Goteborg, Sweden. Only a year later, the third missing (bronze) medal was reached.
